Johan Runnqvst och Håkan Bälter
Konstruktionschef/-ingenjör - Construction manager/-engineerJonas Runnqvist, Design Manager, and Håkan Bälter, Design Engineer, are part of the Design & Calculation team at Scanmast. Together they work on developing and customizing solutions for Scanmast's customers.
In his work as a design engineer, Håkan works with both the adaptation of existing products and the development of completely new products. He is also responsible for technical drawings in projects and interacts with customers, sales people and project managers to produce construction drawings. A large part of his work also involves providing technical support.
It's obviously important to have a good engineering background, but it's also very important to be interested, cooperative, responsive, calm, thorough and structured, he says.
One project he is particularly proud of is the design of a timber conveyor for the Krylbo sawmill.
We designed and built a 66-meter-long bridge to transport timber across a ravine. Jonas and I worked closely together to find a solution, and it was an incredibly successful project with a very satisfied customer.
The solution we chose was to take one of our strongest mast sections, normally used vertically, and lay it horizontally. We built the section into three parallel trusses of 66 meters, which served as the load-bearing structure. Then we designed all the peripheral equipment such as walkways and foundations, says Jonas.
Because of its weight, about 50 tons, it took one of Sweden's largest mobile cranes to lift it into place.
Soon after the conveyor was in place, the first log was transported across the ravine without a hitch. A great feeling!
Jonas explains how his team collaborates with other departments.
We work closely with the sales department to take ideas from customers and incorporate them into product development. We also work with suppliers and directly with our customers on projects where we can jointly develop and customize solutions that effectively meet the customer's specific needs.
The direct contact with customers is something he emphasizes as a strength.
It is important that customers can reach us easily without having to go through several intermediaries. This allows them to get answers to their questions quickly and allows us to create smoother and more flexible projects. By being involved early in the process, participating in site visits and proposing solutions that suit both our and the customer's conditions, we can prevent problems and ensure better results.
Both Jonas and Håkan enjoy their work and emphasize the good working environment.
The best thing is the very good atmosphere we have in the group and that we always help each other out, says Håkan.
He also appreciates the challenge of large development projects, where both design and delivery times are demanding.
Scanmast's design and calculation team consists of seven people - three in design, three in calculation and Jonas himself.
We have a good balance of men and women, younger and more experienced colleagues. Our different backgrounds and experiences complement each other very well, he says.
Håkan agrees and stresses the importance of a positive working environment.
This is a creative environment, we respect each other and make sure we have fun at work. This creates both a creative workplace and satisfied customers.
